During last week’s Democrat debate in New York, Hillary Clinton invoked the 9/11 terrorist attacks within 60 seconds of her opening statement saying “we faced 9/11″ and “we worked hard to rebuild New York.”
Earlier today however, during an interview on ABC News’ “This Week,” Secretary Clinton was oblivious to a major piece of legislation that would effect the victims of 9/11 and their families.
The bill, known as the Justice Against Sponsors of Terrorism Act, was first introduced by Clinton-backer Chuck Schumer in 2013, has bipartisan support in Congress, and would allow victims of 9/11 and other terrorist attacks to sue foreign governments.
It has been opposed by the Saudi Arabian government (for obvious reasons since a majority of the 9/11 hijackers came from Saudi Arabia) which has threatened to sell off billions in American assets should the bill be passed.
Naturally, that threat led the Obama administration to immediately bow into submission, applying heavy pressure to Congress to squash the bill to benefit victims of 9/11.
Despite the bipartisan support, and despite the spotlight being placed on the bill by the Obama administration, Clinton admitted today she has no knowledge of it.
“I don’t really know about that, George,” she said, “I’ll have to look into it.”
ABC’s George Stephanopoulus seemed surprised, saying “You don’t’ know about—It’s been around for several years.”
She reiterated her lack of knowledge.
“I don’t’ know about the specific legislation that you’re referring to, but obviously I’ll look into it,” Clinton said.
Watch the shocking admission below …
America Rising PAC writes:
“Secretary Clinton demonstrated this morning that, despite being “from” New York and the former Secretary of State, she had little to no knowledge of a major piece of legislation that would allow victims of 9/11 and other terrorist attacks to sue foreign governments.”
Here is the transcript below …
STEPHANOPOULOS: You’re senior senator here in New York, Chuck Schumer has sponsored a bill backed by the 9/11 families that would give them the right to sue state sponsors of terror in federal court. Now, it’s opposed by the Obama administration. They say it’s going to expose the US and its officials to retaliation. So who’s right here, Senator Schumer or President Obama?
CLINTON: I don’t really know about that, George. I’ll have to look into it. Obviously we’ve got to make anyone who participates in or supports terrorism pay a price. And we also have to be aware of any consequences that might affect Americans, either military or civilian or our nation. So I’m not—
STEPHANOPOULOS: (CROSSTALK) You don’t’ know about—It’s been around for several years.
CLINTON: Well, I know there’s been an issue about it for quite some time. I don’t know about the specific legislation that you’re referring to, but obviously I’ll look into it.
STEPHANOPOULOS: Okay, so– but you’re not prepared to say now whether you support or oppose it?
CLINTON: I can’t. I haven’t studied it. Unlike some people I actually do try to learn what’s at the core of any question before I offer and opinion because it’s not enough to say what’s wrong, I think you’ve got a responsibility to say how you’re going to fix it.
Jeff Bechdel, America Rising PAC communications director, said “It took Secretary Clinton less than 2 minutes to invoke the tragedy of 9/11 during last week’s debate, and yet when confronted with a legitimate and longstanding debate over a bill directly affecting 9/11 families, Clinton is suddenly speechless.”
He added, “When you consider she was the former Secretary of State and her deep ties to Saudi Arabia, Clinton has no excuse for her complete and utter lack of knowledge on this topic.”
The Saudi Arabian government has donated up to $25 million to the Clinton Foundation.
Clinton, champion of New Yorkers, champion of 9/11 victims and their families, has zero knowledge of a three-year-old bill to allow victims families to sue foreign countries that sponsor terrorism? It shows a stunning lack of awareness on her part.
